Bre’r

Parent/teacher conference week rendered hours of great late night listening from his mothers’ (a grade school teacher) hand-held voice recorder. This early audio voyeurism along with; a suburban cul-de-sac in southern California, little league baseball team photos, a father, another father, a Megadeth tape, van rides with a smooth jazz FM station, once-a-year family gatherings, Stanley Turrentine’s “Smile Stacey”…would be reason enough to take an interest in recording sound. First attempts were made by using moms’ voice recorder to lace bits of cracked guitar amongst conversations about what to do with the children. A chance meeting with a future good friend gave way to the grayish water project, Engines. In the span of six months the pair birthed a heavenly blown gnostic series of hand made cd-Rs that fell into the hands of friends and the like. Searching for a winter prompted a move to Puget Sounds’ Key Peninsula in the state of Washington. While working as a graveyard shift cook, Darren Fisher began recording songs that would permeate into what is now called Bre‘r. With two thousand seven came the self-release, “Love Songs of Brazilian Lawncare” followed by “Bathing for the Betterment of Cold Drink”, a 12” under the umbrella of Circle Into Square. Darren now resides within the temperate limits of Oakland California.
