Rickolus

  • For the past decade rickoLus (Richard Colado) has been writing and recording his music in a green shed in the backyard of his parent's house in Jacksonville Beach, FL.   In that time he has produced a mountain of works that for the most part have never been heard by anyone besides his friends and family.  In 2007 he started a website (www.iamrickolus.com)  where he made some of his music available for free and asked for donations.  He has since accumulated a small following on the internet.  With the finishing of his most recent album "Youngster" he set out to find a record label to help him get his music heard by more people.  He found a home with Circle into Square records and Fake Four Inc. , they will be releasing "Youngster" and some of his other works in 2010.

RickoLus has played shows sporatically in the south east U.S. since 2000.   Most of the time just him and a guitar or piano but occasoinally he has a back-up band.  Now he plays pretty regularly  in and around his home town of Jacksonville and is planning to do some kind of touring later this year.

Over the years Richard Colado has been invovled in other projects besides rickoLus.  He played in the band Julius Airwave from 1999 to 2008.  He was a part of a assignment based recording project with friends Ben Cooper ( Radical Face, Electric President), Jeremiah Johnson (Wudun) and Mitch Cheney (Greeness, Heytonal ) called Mothers Basement.  He played drums in the mythological spastic rock band BioWulf.  And is currently collabertaing on an album with Ben Cooper called "clone".

    Obscure Sound | review
He capitalizes on the allure of DIY lo-fi, focusing on a variety of delectably weightless keys and charming acoustic guitar progressions over Colado’s amiable vocals; the voice remains familiar but the approach differs, mainly in lyrical approach and melodic conveyance. Though it contains a similar degree of infectiousness when compared to Julius Airwave, the integration of acoustical instruments over less convoluted arrangements creates cause for a more personable approach

Something's obviously been brewing off the coast down there in Jacksonville, FL. Rickolus is one Richard Colado, who sings for the band The Julius Airwave, and he can't seem to sit still for long.
