Ill Mondo is a hip-hop production duo based in the SF bay area. Consisting of JRK (Wide Hive Records) and Johnny Red (One Little Indian Records), Ill Mondo takes as much influence and inspiration from 70’s rock and soul as they do from 90’s hip-hop. Last year, Ill Mondo released their debut album: a collaboration with LA rapper Neal Rames, featuring legendary guests like Percee P, Sean Price, and Prince Po. The album received high critical praise and stayed at #9 on the CMJ Hip-Hop charts for 2 weeks.
Be Bad is the new 2-song single from Ill Mondo. Be Bad (Pt 1) is an epic, soul mega-mix, a 12-minute long exploration of all things funky. Starting at a head-nodding 80 bpm and ending at a blistering 120 bpm, the song is edited to a grid and is perfect for DJ use. The heavy drums and tight horn hits work great alongside hip-hop or soul DJ sets, and will get any dance floor going!
Be Bad (Pt 2) is a groovy Egyptian medley, working through a broad range of tempos and rhythms. Traditional Middle-Eastern Belly Dance styles are mixed with a great variety of drums, including MPC-sequenced drum patterns, heavy funk break-beat loops, and original drums recorded and played by JRK himself!
Ill Mondo has a heavy focus on production, and is very committed to creating a classic, timeless sound that is rare in modern hip-hop. Using all vintage equipment, they blur the line between genres and bring a unique tone that is unparalleled in quality. Enjoy the free Be Bad single, and be sure to look for a new full-length LP later this year.
